Windows firewall media extender

How do I get the extender to work with Norton ? Configuring Norton for Xbox. I did followed the instructions to allow for full trust I don't think it could be any other device though.

I also manually changed program rules to allow for all traffic from. Media Center Ehshell. I have another media center extender that used to work fine The Xbox is a wired connection, the other extender is a wireless connection. I am running Norton v. I don't have service pack 3 installed, would that make a difference? I heard there were problems with media center and service Pack 3 so I didnt want to mess with my settings on an old computer.

I keep getting a firewall error and Windows firewall is turned OFF. I can't even turn it back on The Xbox might not be named as such in the Network Security Map - it may show as an unidentified device. I would suggest using the Firewall Reset feature in Norton to revert the firewall settings to their defaults. It is possible that your user-created rules have inadvertently caused a problem with your connectivity. Assuming there is no issue with the new router, if you follow the suggested steps the Xbox should work.

I did a Norton reset of the firewall. The current settings of Windows Firewall is preventing a successful connection to the Media Center extender. The only thing that has changed is a new router. The wireless Media center extender used to work beautifully. I then connected the xbox directly to the computer bypassing the router turning both the computer and Xbox off and on I reconnected and disabled the Norton firewall and tried to run the Media Center Extender Manager and still got the same "ports cannot be opened" error.

I know you will send me to MIcrosoft, but they will blame it on Norton. You would need to manually create them either from snapin or netsh. Also you would probably need only Inbound rules as outbound communication is anyway by default allowed in WF. Thank you for the Rules you have sent me!!! Microsoft official website has wrong settings posted!

If you want I can send you a screenshot. Meanwhile I analyzed my firewall settings to find where the problem was. I created a rule to enable everything.

Then I found only port causing the problem. Thanks for your Inbound rule list I realized that it should be set in a different way. The problem was that on PORT only svchost. As long we do not know which program and which service should be set there. I'm so happy to get over on it after almost a week reading tons of forums and trying many different options. I was almost about to reinstall the whole environment.

Now I'm facing the next difficulty. It does for Music and Video but for Pictures. I do not believe :. TechNet Community Support.
